URDU COLUMN- BAN ON YOUTUBE SHOULD CONTINUE OR NOT
Hasan Iqbal writes Urdu column in dail Nai Baat. Today he wrote a column on future of Youtube in Pakistan. We shall like to share key points of his Urdu column with you. You can read his Urdu column below this post. According to him youtube was banned in Pakistan on 17 September, 2012 due to Anti Islam movie which was uploaded on this website and administration refused to remove that movie from their site.
Youtube is a social media site and it should respect the religious sentiments of people. Due to unfair policy of Youtube several countries like Germany, Afghanistan, U.A.E, Thailand, Turkey , Bangladesh, Morocco, Syria, Malaysia, Russia, Georgia and Sudan banned the site in their countries on different occasions. Even USA also banned it partially . Youtube removed 1400 videos from its site in 2010/11 on the request of USA government. Site must not have double standards.
But the main point on which he emphasized in his Urdu column is that Youtube has its educational benefits too. Unlimited educational and scientific material is available on it. Our students need this material for research purpose. Lot of Islamic videos are also available on this website. This website is also a tool of spreading the teaching of Islam. As far as vulgar videos are concerned those are also available on millions of other websites. We will have to change the mindset of youth for not using such negative websites.PTA can also block such videos.
People are still using Youtube with proxies and their is not actual benefit of ban on this site. While PTA has such ability to filter the Youtube so government should remove the ban from Youtube. National assembly has too passed a resolution for removing the ban from Youtube. If we really want to get the benefits of 3G and 4G technologies than we will have to remove ban from Youtube. In our opinion the ban on Youtube should be removed only if the PTA has technology to filter the Anti Islam videos.
