Latest Update About 32000 Meter Reader Jobs in Wapda and Electricity Distribution Companies 2014-15 Through NTS
As per media reports in the last meeting of federal cabinet, it was noticed that one of the main cause of over and wrong billing was lack of required number of meter readers in Wapda so the cabinet decided to recruit 32000 new meter readers in Wapda. Federal Ministry for water and power has started the paper work for recruitment and a mechanism is being developed for this purpose. Ministry will hire the services of NTS for taking the recruitment tests.
But now Nepra (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) has opposed this decision of cabinet and it is trying to stop this recruitment process. Nepra has presented its argument that non technical staff will not be helpful for this purpose and electricity distribution companies should introduce digital and smart meters. New digital system should be adopted for meter reading as no where in the world now meter reader jobs exist. Nepra has ordered the electricity distribution companies not to recruit new meter readers as due to their salaries the tariff of electricity will increase more and common man will suffer. But on the other hand ministry for water and power is preparing a fool proof mechanism for recruitment process. It is expected that NTS test will be taken to ensure merit and transparency and to discourage nepotism. Clash between ministry and Nepra is continue and it is expected that higher authorities will soon interfere in this matter for a solution. Due to raising unemployment large number of jobless candidates are waiting anxiously for these jobs.
